Comments: Actually, Kate Jambela is an architect. She builds small houses in the township of Philippi, a very densely populated area near Cape Town's international airport. Kate loves good wines. One of her closest friends is Graham Knox, a native of Australia and winemaker and wine writer on the Cape for many years. Together with ten township community leaders, they have come up with the idea of founding and building a winery right in the heart of the township. Part of the grapes will in future also directly from the township. Many families, especially the women, apply for vines, which are then cultivated under expert guidance in the small gardens in the township. The area - called "The Flats" - is ideally suited to winegrowing, as there is a forgotten agricultural tradition founded by German immigrants. The wines are FAIRTRADE certified and crystal clear and fresh ambassadors of their grape varieties.
